Community rules
These rules cover posts, photos, coalitions and messages on Granite State Report. They exist so people can argue hard about public business without hurting private people.
What the badge means
Verified N.H. Resident means Granite State Report confirmed, by an ID check or a mailed postcard code, that the person lives in New Hampshire. It confirms residency, not citizenship, and it is not an endorsement of anything the person says.
Not allowed
- Intimate images of anyone posted without their consent, including fakes made with AI. They are removed within 48 hours of a valid request, and identical copies are blocked.
- Any sexual image of a minor. It is removed at once and reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
- Exposing private people: home addresses, phone numbers, family members, workplaces, medical details, or photos of them in private settings.
- Threats, harassment, or urging others to pile on a person.
- False statements of fact about private people.
- Other people's copyrighted work without permission.
- Impersonating someone, including public officials.
- Spam and advertising. Use the Community Board for listings.
Public officials and public business
Officials' public conduct, public records and public money are fair game. Criticize freely and stick to what you can show.
Coalition rules
- Only Verified N.H. Residents can start or join a coalition. Anyone signed in can follow one.
- A coalition works on a public problem: a policy, a budget, a law, a service, a public place.
- Coalitions do not endorse or oppose candidates for office, and do not raise money for campaigns.
- Coalitions do not target private people.
- Granite State Report approves each coalition before it goes public, does not endorse any coalition's goals, and may report on coalitions like anything else.
- The organizer can close a coalition; its page stays up as a record.
How moderation works
Posts from Verified N.H. Residents go up right away; posts from readers who have not verified wait for the editor. Anyone signed in can report a post. A post reported by several different readers is hidden until the editor reviews it. The editor removes what breaks these rules and restores what does not. To appeal a removal, write to granitestatereport@gmail.com.
