A records request costs money before it produces a single page. Copy charges this newsroom has been quoted by New Hampshire police departments run from a dollar a page to five. Certified mail costs more than the request it carries. A petition to superior court, the only door still open when an agency refuses, costs a filing fee and then months. None of that appears on a story, and all of it has to be paid.
Granite State Report has no paywall, no advertising department, and no owner. It is one reporter in Northfield. If you want the records work to continue, this is the page that makes that possible.

How to pay
Online payment is coming. Until it is live, there are two ways to do this, and both work today.
By mail. Make a check payable to Dexter Dow, write Granite State Report and the tier on the memo line, and send it to Granite State Report, 43 Sargent Street, Northfield, NH 03276. For a monthly tier, send whatever period you like; a year at once is simplest for both of us.
By email. Write to granitestatereport@gmail.com with the tier you want and you will get a reply from the editor, not a form, with the current ways to send it.
Every supporter is confirmed by email within a week of the money arriving.
What you are buying, and what you are not
You are paying for records requests, the postage and fees that go with them, court costs when an agency forces the question, and the hours it takes to read what comes back. You are not buying access, influence, or a say in what gets covered. Supporters see stories when readers do. No supporter is told what is being worked on before it publishes, and no supporter can stop a story.
The same rules that govern commissioned investigations apply here. No money is accepted from a candidate, a campaign, a party, or a political committee, or from any party to a matter this outlet is already covering. A supporter who turns out to be a subject of reporting is named in the story like anyone else.
The plain facts about the money
Granite State Report is a sole proprietorship operated by Dexter Dow. Support is not a charitable donation and is not tax-deductible. It is income to the newsroom and it is spent on the newsroom. A public accounting of what came in and what it paid for is published at year end, on this page.
If that changes, because the outlet takes on a nonprofit structure or a fiscal sponsor, this page changes first and the version log at the bottom says when.
