Community Board
What runs on the Board, what does not, and how GSR keeps paid space apart from the reporting.
Every listing, sponsor card, and photo is read by a person before it appears, usually within one business day. GSR can turn down or take down any listing, and says why when asked.
GSR does not accept political advertising in any form. That means no listing, sponsor card, or paid placement that supports or opposes a candidate, a political party, a political committee, a ballot question, or a bill, and none that urges a vote or a position on one. Campaign events, rallies, and fundraisers are turned down. Money from a candidate, campaign, party, or political committee is not accepted for anything on the Board.
Two things that are not political ads: public meetings and nonpartisan candidate forums open to every candidate on the ballot, which run free as events; and government job openings and public notices, which run free.
The federal Fair Housing Act bars housing ads that state a preference for or against anyone because of race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status, or national origin, and New Hampshire law protects more groups. A housing ad that does that is turned down. Describe the place, not the person you want in it.
Every job shows a pay range. The job has to be open, and the employer has to mean to fill it. Applicants never pay to apply. A job post may not state a preference based on age, sex, race, religion, disability, national origin, or any other trait the law protects.
Your email is never shown. People reach you through a form, and their message comes to your inbox with their address so you can reply. Location data is removed from photos when they upload. To stop spam, GSR keeps a scrambled code made from your internet address, never the address itself, and listings and messages are checked by Akismet, the spam filter this site already uses. Nothing on the Board uses tracking pixels or ad networks. Messages sent through a listing go straight to the poster’s inbox; the Board does not keep a copy.
Buying a listing or a sponsor spot buys no say in the reporting, no preview of a story, and no favors. An advertiser that turns up in GSR’s reporting is named like anyone else, and the story says the business advertises on the Board. Paid placements are labeled and stay on Board pages, the NH map, and the Board tab, never inside a news story. GSR does not sell advertising to New Hampshire public bodies; they post jobs and notices free. The newsroom’s standing rules are in the Code of Ethics.
GSR checks that listings follow these rules. It does not inspect what is for sale, vouch for employers, sellers, or buyers, or take part in any deal. If GSR turns down a listing after you have paid for it, the payment is returned.
Write to granitestatereport@gmail.com with the listing number, or call 603-931-9264. A person reads every report.
